Your tyres are one of the main safety components of your car. They are the only things keeping your vehicle and the road from touching, and as such, they go through a lot of daily use and potential damage. When you’re driving with your family in the car, you want to make sure every single aspect of the vehicle is the safest it can be. Don’t let negligence cause an accident that could be avoided. Inspect your tyres and rims regularly to make sure your family is always riding safely.

Not sure what to look out for? Don’t worry. Swan Tyre Service is a trusted West Australian company that has been in the business for over 50 years. We can give you the tools to inspect your rims and tyres for any potential damage so that you have peace of mind when driving your family around.

What to look out for on the tyres

Below are a few things to look out for when you are inspecting your car’s tyres to make sure they are safe to carry your vehicle.

Notice any bulges

The number one thing to look out for is any odd bubbles or bulges on the sidewall of your tyres. This is extremely dangerous as it could mean that air pressure is reaching the flexible outer layers of the tyre because the rigid internal frame is damaged or cracked. This could have happened from driving fast over a pothole, or something to that effect, but you will undoubtedly have to replace your tyres or risk a potentially dangerous blowout.

Dry rot

If, when you’re inspecting your tyres, you notice little cracks all over the sides, you probably have dry rot. Dry rot means that the rubber is breaking down and therefore needs to be replaced. If not, the rubber can break down to the point of causing the tyres to separate from the steel belt and cause a blow out or other serious damage.

Notice the tread wear

Your tyre’s tread is what maintains good traction between the rubber and the road. If the tread has been worn down, the tyres are no longer safe to drive on. How do you know if the tread has been worn down? Easy. Just look at the tread pattern, which can be found between the tyres’ treads. If they have been levelled out and are even with the tread, the tyres need to be replaced.

Check your rims

There are a few ways to tell if your rims are in good condition. The simplest way is to inspect them for any dents or cracks. If there is any damage, we can easily repair your rims.

Also if your steering wheel vibrates when you’re driving at highway speeds, or you hear a constant thumping as you drive, these are indications that there is a problem with your wheels.
